If the government was expecting to receive a positive response from the UK motor industry for its decision to delay the ban on sales of petrol and diesel vehicles for five years until 2035, it was in for a nasty shock. The move has been widely condemned by manufacturers and businesses for creating uncertainty in the market as well as seeming to indicate a watering down of its commitment to its green agenda (see News on page 5). The government has moved to restore clarity to its electric vehicle transition by announcing details of its ZEV mandate (see News on page 6).
Keeping to the electric van theme, on page 25 we review Renault’s new electric medium van, the Trafic E-Tech, which will join a competitive sector that is shaping up to become the central battleground between manufacturers for electric van dominance. In our Focus On Remarketing (page 18) we take a look at how the used market is responding to the growing numbers of plug- in vans arriving in auction halls and in our News Analysis (page 12) we report on plans within the auction industry to introduce a used van grading system in 2024.
