With supply chain problems no longer stifling demand, the UK’s new light commercial vehicle market was in healthy shape overall as we reached the halfway point in the year. Year-on-year sales increased in each of the first six months of 2023, as we report in News on page 5. There is concern,
however, that the sales of electric vans have stalled, with many operators still obviously lacking the confidence to make the switch from ICE vans.
Matters relating to electrification dominate the news to such an extent it is easy to forget sales of electric LCVs remain marginal in the market as a whole. In June they accounted for just one in 20 sales. There is clearly a long way to go before battery-electric vans break into the mainstream. In our Focus On Remarketing on page 18, we examine whether the easing of supply in the new van market is beginning to have an impact in the used van sector. In the first of an occasional series of features on Vintage Vans, we journey down Memory Lane on page 21 to look at the profound impact Ford’s iconic Transit has had on the market over the course of nearly six decades.
