UCA-NI PRE-REG LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

UCA’s new look pre-reg programme has been

successfully launched in October with support from Northern Pharmacies Ltd Trust Fund, who generously provided a bursary for every pharmacy enrolled on the UCA-NI programme.

We have received excellent feedback from our student cohort, who are enjoying the flexibility of the online training format as well as the range of topics covered.

UCA-NI PHARMACY ASSISTANT TRAINING PROGRAMMES

UCA-NI and Global Horizon Skills have developed a Level 2 training course for pharmacies wishing to upskill your Pharmacy Assistants during the ongoing pandemic.

The Pearson BTeC Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy support staff will commence in November 2020, with much of the training support delivered via Zoom via a blended learning delivery model, one-two hours’ commitment required weekly.

When it is safe and convenient to do so, we will also provide face-to-face support within your pharmacy, which will reinforce the remote learning attained. We anticipate that the Level 2 programme can be completed within a minimum of six months.

Due to the ongoing reform of pharmacy education, technician training has also been reviewed. The new Pearson BTeC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians has some substantial changes to the content and general requirements and the uCA-NI programme delivered via GHs will commence in April 2021. This will facilitate those who wish to progress from the Level 2 programme to the Level 3 certificate. entry criteria include english, Maths and science at Grade C and above.

Our plan is to begin this pharmacy training initiative with delivery of the Level 2 programme from December 2020 and the Level 3 Diploma in spring 2021. GHs also offers essential skills training in numeracy (Maths)

and literacy (english) equivalent to GCse grade C or above, this means that there will be the additional opportunity prior to Level 3 programme start to attain these qualifications.

The cost for undertaking the Level 2 programme is £1195 + vAT + registration fee (£140) per delegate. For more information, or to book your place on the Level 2 or 3 programme, contact uCA-NI or GHs directly – Catherine McGeady catherine@ghskills.com 07850 661971

All candidates and employers will be invited to an information/induction session via Zoom as soon as possible where more information regarding the programme delivery and content will be explained.

Programme co-ordinator, Mairead Conlon, welcomed leading pharmacist and pre-reg tutor valerie Addy to our first zoom session in October. valerie is an extremely supportive tutor and was delighted to contribute to the programme to share with students her experience of teaching pre-reg pharmacists over many years, particularly the importance of good two-way communication between student and tutor.

Joining valerie was newly-qualified pharmacist, Amy Doherty, who is enjoying her first year as a registered pharmacist. Amy provided lots of good advice about how to make the most of the pre-reg year.

FOUNDATION (PRE-REG) PLACEMENT GUIDE 2022-23

DoH has confirmed that pre- registration placements for the Foundation Period 2021-22 will go ahead as arranged.

There are no plans to change the employment and recruitment process for post-graduate placements going forward.

uCA-NI will be working with pharmacies across NI to distribute our Foundation Pharmacist Placement Guide for 2022-23 to all uk schools of Pharmacy in the New year.

In November, uCA’s students heard from experienced manager, Adam Bartholomew, in our first session covering pharmacy management. Adam’s comprehensive yet easy-to-follow presentation on effective purchasing and stock control left pre-regs with good advice and tips on stock management which they can take forward in their own pharmacies.

The third zoom session will take place on 1 December and pharmacies can still sign up to the programme as all presentations and materials are accessible for students to catch up. To join our growing cohort, contact natalie@uca.org.uk
