NATIONAL CONFERENCE
ANNUAL CONFERENCE BUT NOT AS WE KNOW IT!
H
istory will be made this month when the Police Federation of England and Wales’ annual
conference is held virtually for the first time. Our flagship event returns on 9 and
10 June after a two-year absence - a cyber attack caused its cancellation in 2019, followed by the pandemic last year – and, because we’re hosting it online, a much larger audience, including Fed reps, members and Special Constables will attend and interact, another first for the Federation. National Chair John Apter
comments: “In an ideal world we would all come together in person for our conference but we’re not in an ideal world. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected everybody – and, as we know, the impact on policing has been significant. “The pressure on our colleagues
has, at times, been intolerable which is why it’s appropriate that the theme of this year’s conference is ‘Policing Under Pressure’. Among other issues, we will
examine policing protests, the welfare of our colleagues and officers being put on trial by the media. It’s promising to be a great event.” The conference will be held
in partnership with Accenture and will include an address from leading politicians including a senior Government official and senior figures in policing. The theme of policing under pressure reflects a 12-month period unlike any other in living memory, with Covid-19 changing the way we police, and mass demonstrations adding to the pressure.
Some elements will be live from
a studio in Westminster and guests in virtual attendance will include the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), the College of Policing (CoP) and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS). Members will have the opportunity
to ask questions, participate in polls, as well as attend sessions in the main online auditoriums and roundtable sessions.
In another first, the conference will also include a ‘virtual exhibition’; an online space where visitors can interact with our key policing partners. The area is organised into five zones – claims and legal; government, legislation and police; learning and career development, member services; and practitioners. Delegates can click on a floorplan and then either ‘drop by’ to speak to someone or arrange an online one-to-one call. If they get their ‘passport stamped’ each time they visit and engage with an exhibitor, they will qualify for entry into a prize draw. With more than 100 years’ history
of representing, negotiating and influencing on behalf of its 130,000 plus members, PFEW’s annual conference is a must attend for members, stakeholders, suppliers, charities and associates of the police family. To see the full agenda and register
