Mukund Krishna highlights his plans for 2024 as PFEW starts its transformational journey


Since becoming CEO of the Police Federation, I have begun to meet members across the country, and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to meet more of you in person throughout 2024. Your commitment to protecting the public 24/7, 365 days a year is inspirational. The restrictions, limitations and risks you face are deserving of the utmost respect and understanding from the government, the public and our colleagues. We apologise for decisions made in the past and recognise that the Police Federation has a number of obligations to you as its members. We are committed to ensuring that the Federation of the future is not paying for the past mistakes. In 2024 we will be continuing


with progress already underway. First, we will be reviewing how we run the Federation from the top to the bottom of the organisation, including introducing a new robust governance framework which involves challenge and transparency in decision making. We have commissioned an Independent Review of the organisation to help us achieve this, with outside, expert findings feeding into how we will change the way we operate so we can all work together to achieve the best outcomes for members. Aside from how we operate, the


Federation also needs to feel different, with a much closer connection to the values, for everyone: our members, our reps, our Branch staff and officers and our National Board and HQ team. We are determined to professionalise


the way we work. This means cultivating a safe and rewarding working environment, efficiently serving our members. To do this, we have embarked on a raft of transformational changes within the organisation. We are also taking steps towards making savings across the organisation while ensuring services to our members are unaffected. Following the judgment, we are having constructive conversations

with the claimants’ lawyers about an appropriate settlement while ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the Federation. We also need to become an organisation that listens to its members better. Not only will we be engaging with members on improving the pay negotiation framework, but we will also be running Focus Groups and holding face to face discussions to check we are providing the right services, at the right cost. Finally, on a personal level, I am making


a determined effort to be open and visible. In January, I launched a new channel on X (CEO_PFEW) to share updates on our progress as we continue to shape a Federation fit for the future.
