More and more skiers want custom fitted boots, with good reason. They’re key to getting the most out of your ski trip. Gavin Paterson, expert boot fitter and Assistant Manager Snow+Rock Port Solent, explains why a well-fitted pair of boots is essential.

Gavin Paterson has been in the ski industry for over 20 years, much of it based in Verbier, and has been fitting boots for Snow+Rock since 2007.
"If you get a problem with rental boots it can really ruin your week. Custom fitted boots will increase your performance and make your skis feel more responsive. What feels roomy and comfortable in the shop doesn’t always give performance on the slope.
Nine out of ten problems come from the ski boot being too big. Custom foot beds control the foot inside the boot. Without them the boot isn’t really fitted and that causes problems.
For most people, the foot elongates forward from half to a whole size when you stand up. We take two measurements - weighted and unweighted - to find the correct size, and ultimately the right ski boot. A custom footbed helps the foot make contact, reduces elongation and improves comfort.
We put a lot of investment in training. In addition, there is no language barrier between you and your boot fitter in the UK.
