SHAME SHAME LIVERPOOL DRIVER JAILED FOR 12 YEARS FOR

A taxi driver sexual- ly assaulted a young woman who fell asleep in his car. According to the Liverpool

Echo,

Mohammed Tahir, picked up the 33- year-old woman in Bootle after she was separated from her friend. He drove her to Seel Street in the city centre where she hoped to rejoin her pal. But when the woman, who is believed to have fallen asleep, did not get out there he drove her

to a secluded spot and

attacked her. Liverpool Crown Court heard that Tahir, 35, drove her around for two and half hours in the early hours of Dec 27 last year before ending

up in

Netherton where he climbed into the back seat and sexu- ally assaulted her. He only had a short taxi licence and it expired at midnight on Boxing Day. Tahir, who is from Sudan, had applied for leave to perma- nently remain in the UK but it was not granted.

Tahir, from Liver- pool, was cleared of rape but was con- victed, after two trials, of assault by penetration. Sarah Holt, prose- cuting, said that he has no previous convictions, though there had been con-

DUNDEE DRIVER MAY LOSE LICENCE FOR ‘ADVERTISING SEX’ IN HIS CAB

A Dundee taxi driver who advertised his cab online as a place for sex has been suspended.

The

driver used dating site FabGuys.com to post nude pictures of himself with his taxi badge, saying he could “always be found” by the rank near Dundee Rail- way Station. The post has since been taken down, but a concerned reader sent images from the website to The Courier

last

month. A complaint was received by the council, which also reported it to the police and it has been confirmed he was suspended as a result of the post. Council papers state there was letter from

a licensing stan- dards officer about the “alleged con- duct” of the driver during the “currency of his taxi driver licence”. According to the Courier, a private hearing subsequent- ly took place to determine whether he will have his licence permanently stripped from him. Using the username taximan2, the Fab- Guys page said he would “prefer quick meets either out- doors or in my taxi”. It also states en- counters can take place in his home and that he is 52 years old. It is understood the police investigated the matter but could not prove any crimi-

nal activity had taken place so no further action was taken. Given the nature of the supposed meet- ings and that the post also suggested they could take place in his home, it would be difficult to prove any sexual activity had taken place in public, a police source said. When approached for comment via the number on the FabGuys post last month, the man who answered the phone denied

knowing

about the website and described the conversation as “dis- gusting”. He then hung up when asked if that means he denies having any- thing to do with the post.

cerns in 2015 about him being in the company of young females. Judge

Andrew

Menary QC told him that he had sexually assaulted

the

woman “at a time when she was com- pletely helpless in the early hours of the morning.” He added:

“The

case involves a degree of abduc- tion or at least prolonged deten- tion. You

had

realised she was sufficiently affected by drink or tired- ness

or a of

both and was not in a fit state to look after herself and you took advantage of that.” Jailing Tahir for 12 years,

he also

ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and imposed an indefi- nite Sexual Harm Prevention Order banning him from working as a taxi driver or transport- ing females. The court heard that he will be automati- cally deported when his sentence ends. The woman, who

cannot be identi- fied, stood up in court and told Tahir her life had “been turned

upside

down” and she feel “a shell” of her for- mer self. She was put on medication in case she

had been

exposed to HIV and spend six months not knowing if she had contracted “a life limiting dis- ease”. Turning to Tahir across the court- room she told him: “You are a predator and a disgrace of a human being.”

MOBILE PHONE FOOTAGE HELPED CONVICTWAKEFIELD DRIVER

A taxi driver groped a customer after offering her use of his phone charger. Ali Asim, 32, who works for Wakefield Cars, denied sexual assault but was found guilty follow- ing a trial at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court. Prosecutor Jill Sed- don told the Hud- dersfield court that the woman’s ordeal began

late on

February 5. She had enjoyed a night out in Wakefield before her friend called for a taxi from the Star Inn after last orders. Ms Seddon said: “The defendant was called to collect the two ladies and her friend was dropped off first. At some point she (the vic- tim) got into the

front of the taxi as the driver offered to charge her mobile phone. “She says when she did that he reached across the seat and touched her bet- ween her legs and on her breasts. She’s dropped off at home and tells her hus- band what’s hap- pened. A short time later police are in- volved and the driver was traced through his taxi information.” Asim denied touch- ing the victim in any way but footage from her mobile phone proved that she was distressed when he dropped her off at her home. Mrs Seddon said: “You can clearly hear she’s distressed as she arrives home

and is heard to cry and say

‘dirty

b*****d’. While that does not show the offence, it corrobo- rates the position she was in when being dropped off that evening.” Magistrates

found

Asim, from Wake- field, guilty follow- ing his three-hour trial. They ordered a pre-sentence report and he was to be sen- tenced on January 2. Mmmm… Two things here: (1) Why has this hearing only come into court in December when the offence took place the previous Febru- ary? Are the courts that packed out?? (2) If there had been a SSD CCTV in the taxi this never would have happened… Ed.
