NEWS Designing Libraries conference
DESIGNING Libraries, the online resource for all those interested in the how design helps create better services, is holding its first ever conference this summer. Taking place at Camden’s Swiss Cottage Library, London, on 17 June, the event will bring together library leaders, architects, designers and technology specialists. Created to spark conversations and build connections between all those with a passion for good design and the benefits it can bring to services. Ayub Khan, Director of Designing Libraries, said: “We are
very excited to be hosting our first ever Designing Libraries national conference, bringing together architects, design- ers, and practitioners to discuss innovation in Library Design. Both national and international speakers will be sharing their expertise, and the conference will be a forum for Libraries in different sectors to learn from each other.” The conference will look at how design can help librar- ies become more sustainable, innovative and inclusive. Themes include Innovation in library services and spaces; Technology that transforms user experiences; Sustainability and environ mentally conscious; Inclusivity and co-design;
and Key trends driving modern library design. Speakers confirmed for the event include Libraries Minis- ter Baroness Twycross, Laura Dyer, Deputy Chief Executive, Place, Engagement and Libraries at Arts Council England, and Philip Kent, Former University Librarian and current Chair of the Library Design section at the International Fed- eration of Library Associations. CILIP’s Professional Registration
CILIP’s Professional Registration is the gold stan- dard of CPD for the library profession, but it can be daunting to take the first step towards Certification, Chartership or Fellowship. Based around CILIP’s world renowned Professional Knowl- edge and Standards Base (PKSB), Professional Registration allows CILIP members to demonstrate skills, knowledge and achievements in your career. It is recognised by employers in all sectors, both in the UK and internationally. All those looking to become professionally registered can access support from CILIP, through a network of Mentors and local Professional Registration Support Officers. There
are also regularly sessions and events to help motivate and answer any questions about your own professional regis- tration journey.

WLIC dates confirmed
DATES for the world’s most prestigious international library event in 2027 – The World Library and Infor- mation Congress (WLIC) in London – have been set for 9-13 August 2027. CILIP, which led the bid to host the event, has already set up a National Committee and sub-committees that will deliver key activities in partnership with International Fed- eration of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and its Professional Conference Organiser (PCO). Helen Mandl, Deputy Secretary General, Director Mem- ber Services at IFLA told CILIP’s Buyers’ Guide: “We know that it is important to have suppliers and delegates thinking
