S we move into 2024 we can look back at 2023 as a year of opportunity and development for CILIP. We started the year looking forward to a Green Libraries Conference and ended it with a deep dive into new technology at Libraries Rewired, punctuated by CILIP Conference in summer. It was a year of coming together and that face-to-face contact is a reminder that CILIP is about its members and the people who work in the library, information and knowledge management profes- sions. These conferences saw representation from across sectors, highlighting CILIP’s position as the only independent organisation representing the whole of the information profession. CILIP is here for information professionals everywhere and in every sector, but it is also here to directly support our members and their needs, from training and CPD to content and networks, there are opportunities for every member to unlock the value of their CILIP membership.

A

As well as a huge range of products and services for members, CILIP also has a role to play in advocating for the profession – helping to ensure that the wider world recognises the value of the work being done to improve health outcomes, raise education standards, support research, grow a sustainable economy and the myriad of other ways that access to information is helping to build stronger more successful communities.

That support for communities comes directly from your work and over the next year Information Professional will be sharing more of your stories. There will be new columns for 2024 focussing on differ- ent aspects of the professional journey. We will be taking a closer look at some of the CILIP 125 – the

rising stars of the profession, whose contributions were recognised in CILIP’s anniversary year. Apprentices will be sharing their expe- rience of the profession as they embark on the early years of the career, supported in work and through their apprenticeships. And we will be hearing from CILIP members who have completed

Professional Registration, giving a first-hand insight into the benefits of Professional Registration, what to expect and how to ensure you are well prepared to succeed.

The start of every year offers us all an opportunity to look to the future and think about what we want to achieve. There is no doubt that 2024 will bring more change, but CILIP will continue to be here to support you now and into the future.
