S

eason’s Greetings! Over the past few months, CILIP President Kate Robinson and I have been participating in a ‘Big Conver- sation’ with members across the UK, both in-person (Covid guidance permitting) and virtually. It has been incredibly powerful to hear from you about your experiences over the last 21 months – how you have focused on supporting your users and communities with reading and recovery, online access and skills. How you helped your organisations to make the great ‘digital pivot’ and to continue to make a difference to peoples’ lives. From this Big Conversation we have identified four strategic contexts which are shaping the daily work of the information professional com- munity over the next five years: Sustainability, Digital Transformation, Equity and Social Justice and Leadership. As librarians, information and knowledge professionals, we want to help our users, communities or organisations to emerge from Covid-19 more environmentally-sustainable, more ‘digital’ and more inclusive and representative. Our aim is to help members make the transition, as CILIP Board member Stephen Phillips put it, from “Information Managers to Information Leaders” – helping to ensure that we aren’t just responding to the changes happening all around us, but that we are in the driving seat, helping to shape them. CILIP itself is also going to be making some changes. You may have seen the recent email from our Chair John Trevor Allen confirming the Board’s decision to leave our current premises at Ridgmount Street. This is an exciting development which will allow us to find new, more appropriate premises while also securing the long-term future of your professional body. You can find a full overview on our website at www.cilip.org.uk/CILIPRelocationPlans. I am also pleased to confirm that CILIP has emerged from the pandemic in good financial order, thanks to the support of our Mem- ber Networks and Devolved Nations as well as a significant Recovery Grant secured from the Arts Council England. Finally, I’d like to express my thanks to several people who have helped steer our community through the challenges of recent years. To Paul Corney, who despite the disruption has been an incredibly active and engaged CILIP President. To John Trevor Allen, who steps down as Chair in December and whose leadership and support have been vital. To Alison Wheeler who as Honorary Treasurer has done more than anyone to ensure that CILIP can look to the future with confidence. To all of our Trustees and Committees, the hundreds of volunteers that lead our Member Networks and represent the community in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as our overseas members, our partners, funders and friends. Thank you all!

But most of all, thank you to you, our members – the people who go out every day and make a difference to the lives of your users and com- munities. I wish you a happy and relaxing Christmas and here’s to 2022!
