How long has OCLC been a WLIC exhibitor?

OCLC has exhibited at WLIC for decades. We look forward to this event every year.

What are the main reasons you do it? WLIC offers us the chance to meet with and hear from librarians from all over the world. The program is always full of energy and enthusiasm, and we always come away from the event with new ideas. We value the opportunity to learn from a vari- ety of perspectives, which in turn helps us create programs, research, solutions, and training that benefit all libraries.

Are there any significant differences between WLIC exhibitions and other library events?

This is truly an international event. WLIC brings together library professionals from all over the world, with differing levels of experience and expertise. This provides a much more global perspective.

Have you noticed any trends in terms of other exhibitors, or exhibition visitors?

One thing that always stands out is that you often see greater representation of both exhibitors and visitors from the region in which the WLIC is taking place. Of course, this is to be expected and provides an opportunity for learning and networking in a part of the world that you might not otherwise have a chance to visit.

How different can WLIC exhibitions be depending on which countries are hosting?

The exhibitions can differ depending on

the hosting country for a couple of reasons. Each year, you see larger vendors attend in some capacity, but depending on the location, you will also see some of the smaller, more niche vendors that may not always have an opportunity to attend WLIC. This is great because you get to hear about the specialised projects they are working on. Also, with each different location, the

IFLA organising group does a great job of incorporating some of the cultural aspects of the location. For example, in Astana,

Kazakhstan last year, there were people selling traditional Kazakh items and there was even a performance of traditional music in the exhibition hall. This is greatly appreciated, especially by those there for the conference with no additional time to experience the location.

I was also wondering if you’d encourage smaller suppliers to take part?

Absolutely! It is a great opportunity to learn, network, hear new perspectives,

A sponsor’s view of WLIC

OCLC is a longstanding exhibitor and sponsor of the World Libraries and Information Congress and currently a platinum sponsor. Here Gemma Burke, Marketing Operations Manager, EMEA & APAC, OCLC, explains why.
