Presentation to Capt John Noble

As a mark of formal recognition for John Noble’s considerable contribution to the Institute as Management Board and Committee member over many years, a presentation was made to him in the run up to the Christmas break.

The Management Board met at the Marriott Hotel near Portsmouth and were joined by John for lunch. John is pictured being presented with a selection of cigars and a bottle of alcohol.

Although in retirement, John has made it clear he remains available to advise and assist if and when required.

Handy Guides come of age

Late last year, IIMS published its twenty first handy guide in the what a marine surveyor needs to know about series of self-help publications. The topic of the most recent handy guide is surveying FRP/GRP vessels and brings the total of publications to twenty-one in total.

A number of further manuscripts are ready for publication and will be brought to market when time permits. Other subjects awaiting publication are a guide on anodes and one on Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs).

Teamwork as two IIMS surveyors get together from opposite sides of the world

Two IIMS members, Yannis Stratis and Peter Pope, have worked on a project together. Yannis flew to Sydney, Australia from Corfu, Greece as Peter inspected a Grand Banks 52. He then handed the vessel over to him to be loaded by Seven Star Shipping on 3 December 2019 for delivery to Hamburg and then on to Corfu.

Yannis had acted as the broker who sourced BERMUDA II, 2008 Grand Banks 52 flybridge and Peter had inspected this vessel. Yannis commissioned Peter to get the vessel ready, repair all items and then steam the vessel from Brisbane to Sydney in readiness and get ready for shipping on a Seven Star ship, loading in Port Botany Bay, bound for Hamburg Germany with the final destination Corfu.
