Objective Revise Revise /or/ sound family. Understand the different spelling patterns that can make the /or/ sound.
Practise Common Exception Words (tricky words) ɑll sure cɑlled your wɑter door poor floor. Revise homophones for / four, bored / boɑrd.
• Revise the /or/ sound family from Phase 5.5, Week 15.
Talk about the difference between them; they all have the same phoneme but have different graphemes.
Teach 10mins
• Use a phoneme frame to show the children how to build the word wɑlk with letters. Remind the children to listen for a vowel sound. Model writing the word.
• Repeat the above with the words cɑught fourteen score. • Alien Words of the Day - jɑlk chɑught trore.

Blending for Reading - Hands up, Pair up Practise 10mins
Children are given a card containing an /or/ word. Children walk around to clapping or music, then stop and hands up, pair up. Children read each others cards then trade and the process repeats itself a few times. Teacher and TAs must try and hear children reading and correct misconceptions or errors.
Segmenting for Spelling - Best Guess Apply 5mins
Teacher separates board into separate /or/ columns, ‘or’ 'ɑw' ‘ɑu’ 'ɑl' 'ɑugh' 'our' and 'ore'. Teacher reads 4 or 6 words (depending on time) and children decide which column the words belong in. Children place/ write the word on the chosen grapheme column and teacher corrects as needed.
After modelling a couple times allow the children to spell out words on their own boards or paper, ensuring they apply the correct spelling.
