Each medium is normally available in a number of pack types as described below. However, some media are, for technical reasons, restricted in pack availability.

B lots in scew-cap bottles. Each vial melts within a few minutes in a boiling-water bath and
the contents can be poured into the petri dish with normal sterile precautions, but without recourse to autoclaving.

D lots in screw-cap bottles. Though
cheaper in this bulk pack, the medium takes longer to melt, with some risk of caramelisation, or contamination if not all used immediately.
