he OPEC Fund’s General Counsel Violet Onyemenam met virtually

with Alexandra Campbell-Ferrari, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Water Security and Cooperation (CWSC), to congratulate the organization on the soft launch of its RENEWAL project – a water security and WASH legal platform. The RENEWAL (Research and

Evaluation of Nexuses of the Exploitation of Water in All Law) project was co-financed by the OPEC Fund via a grant channeled through the World Bank's Global Forum on Law, Justice and Development (Global Forum). The project was also co-funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. RENEWAL analyzes and evaluates

the state of water governance in Africa and offers targeted solutions to ensure that clean and safe water is accessible to all, encourage better water resource management and governance, and allocate resources effectively, transparently and equitably. Onyemenam commended CWSC

for its efforts in improving water governance in Africa and enhancing ownership by governments. She also

emphasized the important role that the private sector can play in helping achieve water security. Campbell-Ferrari thanked the OPEC

Fund for its support. "We are proud to announce the launch of the RENEWAL Platform which puts a face to water security in key countries in Africa and starts the process of building a stronger legal framework and system to protect water for the future. We are deeply grateful for the support

from the OPEC Fund, which allowed us to develop our methodology for this project. Through their support, the OPEC Fund has shown a commitment to understanding the impact that law has on water and the need for stronger water law to protect this critical resource for people today and in the future." Also representing the OPEC Fund

were Grants and Technical Assistance Unit Head Dr. Walid Mehalaine and Senior Counsel Elizabeth Hassan.

A special thanks to the Global Forum Secretariat and Marco Nicoli for making this partnership possible.
