If you’re looking for an interesting alternative to traditional box topiary, then this ceanothus could very well be it. Californian Lilac is one of the hardiest and easiest to grow of the ceanothus family. It has a naturally compact habit and will look wonderful on a patio or balcony, and especially good in pairs on either side of a doorway. All it needs is a trim after flowering and again in late summer to keep it in shape.
