Letting Organisations Know
When you are dealing with the affairs of someone who has died, you will need to deal with a number of organisations. People have different circumstances and the organisations to be contacted will vary.
How can you get help to cancel council services
Tell us once This is a free voluntary service.
Following the registration, we will give you a letter with a reference number and details of a website and phone line you should use to notify other parts of the council and some government agencies

• HM Revenue and Customs - Child Benefit, Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit, personal taxation
If you do not use Tell Us Once, you may need to notify:
The Department of Work and Pensions to stop state pension payments Tel: 0845 6060 265.
If the deceased received benefits such as Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Child Benefit or Attendance Allowance tell the Jobcentre Plus or Social Security Office. Tel: 0845 6088 601 Tell HM Revenue and Customs if the deceased received tax credits (Working Tax or Child Tax Credits) Tel: 0845 300 3900
There are also other organisations you may need to notify:
The deceased’s employer or occupational pension provider. They will let you know if the occupational pension can be passed to another family member or surviving civil partner
• The deceased’s personal pension provider, if they have one
Health Services
Tell the deceased’s doctor and any other health service provider they may have used, such as a local hospital, dentist, chiropodist or private health care
Money
Financial organisations will probably ask to see a copy of the death certificate.
• The Inland Revenue as there may be an Income Tax refund due
• Banks or building societies • Credit card companies • Insurance companies
• Post Office savings, premium bonds or stocks and shares
