com)…or the eminently trailerable Lit- tle Cod 21 Houseboat, a design still in development but based on the garvey hull of the open Little Cod 21 skiff. Today, however, we’d like to focus
on a brand-new, clever and attractive houseboat Sam came up with days ago, featuring a houseboat cabin atop a Honker 19 garvey hull—a lightweight, larger version Sam’s open Honker 18 design, which in turn was based on his successful Cackler 14 and Snow Goose 16 fishing-hunt- er-load-hauling designs. These big, open garvey hulls are amazingly roomy and seaworthy, with great carrying capacity—ideal, in other words, for hosting an attractive little houseboat

cabin. So, the new Honker D.S. 19 is 19'
2" overall and a beam of 8' 6," draft of 12.5", trailering weight of 2100 pounds and inside headroom of 6'3." Boaters can walk through the cabin from stern to bow cockpits, and inside—lo and be- hold—they will find an enclosed head/ shower, galley with sink, refer and pro- pane cabin heater, settee that becomes a single berth, two hanging lockers and dinette that drops down to become a double berth. Tere are stern seats in the cockpit alongside steering and controls, and a decked bow cockpit with direct access to bow roller and anchor. As for power, Sam recommends a 60hp (or even larger) four-stroke outboard for high-speed planing performance, but we’d personally be tempted to go slower and relax with something like a 9.9hp four-stroke. Final elements of the design are being
worked out, and Sam says plans will be available by the time you’re reading this. Go to
devlinboat.com and search for Honker D.S. 19 to find study plans and hopefully also building plans.
GYPSY 20 HOUSEBOAT, by Glen-L Similar in concept and size to the Devlin shantyboat described above, Glen-L’s Gypsy 20 features a fast speedboat hull under a surprisingly roomy houseboat cabin—a boat that can be powered for speeds up to 30mph, or slowed down sharply with something like a 9.9hp four- stroke outboard. Gypsy offers a roomy open cockpit,
while also sleeping up to four adults inside. The boat has an enclosed head, galley, lots of storage cubbies and cabin- top that can be used as a sundeck. And, like other designs featured today, she can serve as a small houseboat when afloat, or a camper when trailered overland to watery destinations. Length overall is 20' 1," with a beam of
7' 11," draſt of 9," and empty hull weight of about 1700 pounds. Headroom inside is 6' 4," fuel capacity is 70 gallons, water capacity is 34 gallons, and the cockpit size is 7' by 7.' Readers can order Gypsy study plans
for $15, or building plans including full-size patterns for $217, from glen-l. com.
