MTC Hosts 100+ Higher Education Professionals for 7th Annual Southeastern

Assessment Institute Summer 2018

The Southeastern Assessment Institute at MTC is a two-day event where participants learn the ins and outs of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs). SLOs are statements that specify what students will know, be able to do, or be able to demonstrate when they have completed or participated in a program or activity. SLOs are usually expressed as knowledge, skills, attitudes, or values and are generally reported during college reaffirmation periods.

“The event is organized with a great deal of MTC community help, and the presenters are almost all MTC faculty and staff. We pride ourselves in knowing how to demonstrate the best ways to produce effective student learning outcomes (SLOs),” said Dr. Diane Carr, MTC Vice Provost and Chief Academic Officer and the 2018 Southeastern Assessment Institute coordinator.

MTC Launches Program in

Renewable Energy Summer 2018

MTC has launched a new Renewable Energy Technician Certificate program that teaches students to install, service, and troubleshoot renewable energy systems to include solar and wind. This is a stand-alone certificate that gives students employable skills in just two semesters.

“Our overall goal is to develop a trained workforce capable of installing solar energy appliances and equipment,” said Alan Clayton, MTC’s Department Chair of Industrial Technologies. “This supports the college’s mission of developing students ready to enter the job market, build a workforce, and strengthen the economic development in the Midlands area and South Carolina as a whole.”

SUMMER 2018 MTC gives high school teachers and guidance counselors new insights into STEM education during the Summer STEM Institute.
