Letter from the MHC President THE MARYLAND HORSE COUNCIL
by Kimberly K. Egan, MHC President
While I write this month’s President’s Letter, it is the end of the December, the end of 2024, and the end of an era. Last month, I dedicated this page to Ross Peddicord, who retired as the Ex- ecutive Director of the Maryland Horse Industry Board on December 30. I wrote many words last month about the regard in which he his held by the industry, which can be found on
equiery.com. Tis month I will forgo words altogether and rely
instead on pictures. Tese photographs were taken at Ross’s December 6 retirement party at the Maryland Horse Library and Education Center in Reisterstown. A packed house of Maryland horse industry leaders came together to “toast and roast” Ross with food, drinks, camaraderie, and lots of fun stories. Bon voyage, Ross!
MD Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks presented Ross Peddicord with a Governor’s Citation for his 14 years with MDA.
Anne Arundel County Execu- tive and former MHC Presi- dent Steuart Pittman
Jim Steele, former MHIB Chairman, shared stories about working with Ross and MHIB.
Cricket Goodall of the Maryland Horse Breed- ers and Maryland Mil- lion Ltd., was hostess and emcee for the eve- ning’s festivities.
Jeff Newman of the Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill thanked and jokingly cursed Ross for helping Maryland secure a CCI5*-L event.
Frankie Cubero of Green Spring Valley Hounds and U.S. Pony Racing’s Regina Welsh
Hope Birsh, who helped start Horse- land at the State Fair, with Ross, for- mer MHC president, Jane Seigler, and Paul Schopf
Tonya Kendrick-Green of MDA with state stable in- spectors Peggy Morgan and Ellen James
Josh Pons of Country Life Farm had the room, and Ross, in stitches shar- ing fox chasing adventures and racing mishaps.
