Newest FEI Eventing Steward General Hails from Maryland

Pritchard-Bryan issued the following statement: “I am truly honored to be appointed as the U.S. FEI Eventing Steward General. First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to Janis Linnan and Sally O’Connor for their mentor- ship and guidance over the many years. T e journey has been exciting and I’m look- ing forward to performing my duties in this new capacity. With this appointment, I am committed to

Dickinson Wins Galbreath Award Racetrack surface innovator Mi-

T ey are dedicated FEI offi cials that are integral to the success of a competition, and they are passionate about the sport and the very important role they play in it. My plans will be to work with the USEF Licensed Offi cials Department, and the FEI to support and increase the educational op- portunities for Eventing Stewards, as well as expand offi ciating opportunities both here and abroad. Encouraging and maintaining lines of communication will be paramount as well as improving the consistency in performing our responsibilities as Stewards. I am looking forward to supporting and

chael Dickinson was named the 33rd Gal- breath Award Recipient by the University of Louisville (UofL) Equine Industry Program. Dickinson, originally of Yorkshire, England, now resides in North East, MD at Tapeta Farm, and has spent his life deeply involved in the horse industry. Dickinson was a champion steeplechase jockey and trainer before switching primarily to fl at- track T oroughbred racing as a trainer in the UK. He came to the U.S. in 1987 to continue training and has won more than 80 stakes races in the U.S. and Canada. Most recently, he is the inventor of the racetrack surface Tapeta Footings, an all-weather synthetic material designed to improve safety for the horses and jockeys. He was awarded the Gal-
breath Award in recognition of this innovation. “I am hon- ored and fl attered to receive the Galbreath Award,” Dick- inson said. “T e safety of the horse has always been a long- term goal of mine ever since I was a child when on small po- nies I had to keep up with my mother who was on a Grade A International Showjumper. In 1996, Dickinson founded Tapeta Farm with the most innovative technology in equine care and horse husbandry. T rough his inter- est in improving racetrack surfaces, he devel- oped Tapeta Footings. “T e focus on safety for its equine and human athletes is paramount in horse racing today,” said Michele Fischer, president of horse racing and gaming consult- ing fi rm Darting Star LLC in his nomination. “Michael has demonstrated a willingness to take personal and career risks in the develop- ment of a new racing surface. In the beginning, he was met with great reluctance by an industry resistant to change. He has continued to refi ne the science and today the Tapeta surface has been installed at racetracks and training centers across the world.” According to a March 2023 UofL, Tapeta
