lifetime... Oregon Ridge. After a short career on the track, the Kentucky-bred Oregon Ridge (A.P. Indy x Pharma) was brought to Sparks by Jeanne Vance who showered him with love, fed him pep- permints and tended to a track injury. After Vance died, her sons Bobby
and Mark
Smith gave this spe- cial horse to Nancy Hale, who is pictured riding “Bear” at the 2014 Totally Thoroughbred Horse Show at Pimlico in the 70+ Leadline class. Hale also loved him and wanted him to have a useful life which is how he ended up with his last owner Betty McCue (pictured leading). Bear spent a lifetime teaching riders of all ages how to show and topping many year-end standings here in Maryland. Photo by Fran Scully.
