Pimlico Construction Updates T e Maryland T oroughbred Racetrack
Operating Authority (MTROA) provided the following update on the renovation plans for Pimlico Racecourse at its Febru- ary meeting. • Pimlico will have 410 residential stalls and 80 receiving stalls. • 260 of those stalls will be along the back- stretch where the current brick barns are located. • 36 stalls will become the “Preakness Compound” where the current stakes barns are located. • Additional stalls will be located along Rogers and Winner avenues. • T ere is no site plan as of yet for the club- house/grandstand facility. • T ere are no plans as of yet for the parcels along Northern Parkway. • Demolition will begin 30 days after this year’s Preakness Stakes. • Horses will be stabled at Pimlico from around one month before the Preakness Meet begins until May 31. • MTROA will repurpose and save certain historical elements of the stakes barns and the Preakness barn. • T e new barns will be built in a “hybrid” method that includes fabric-like roofs.
Former Reddemeade Grounds to Become Public Park

demeade Farm in Ashton was sold to Mont- gomery County in 2023 and subsequently closed. T e Montgomery County Parks De- partment intends to turn the property into a public natural and historical park. Cassandra Michaud, who happens to be a horse owner boarding at Waredaca in Laytonsville and who is also the Cultural Resources Stewardship Su- pervisor for Montgomery Parks, met with the Sandy Spring Museum staff in mid-February to provide updates on the project.
According to the Sandy Spring Museum, the
future Ednor Soapstone Quarry Park will be a “site dedicated to the conservation, research, and interpretation of soapstone and the indig- enous use of this resource.” Museum staff is looking into partnership programming oppor- tunities including sharing several of its artifacts

2024 MHBA Yearling Show Purse Premiums
Each year, the Maryland Horse Breeders
Association (MHBA) distributes $40,000 in bonus awards from the Maryland-Bred Funds to the top four earners of two-year-olds and three-year-olds who participated in the annual MHBA Yearling Show. All earnings are verifi ed by T e Jockey Club with the total funds being split between the two age groups. T e premium is distributed 65% to the exhibitor of the leading earner ($13,000), 20% to the second lead- ing earner ($4,000), 10% to the third leading earner ($2,000) and 5% to the fourth leading earner ($1,000). New IEA "Green" Scholarships T e Interscholastic Equestrian Associa-
tion has partnered with YETI and Green
