SECURITY ISSUE 62 - WINTER 2016/17

ur winter edition analyses the challenges facing security in 2017 with views from the leaders of police forces, security organisations and providers. Our contributors bring

clarity to the threats and guidance on the continuing and expanding role for the security industry in addressing them. Additionally, leading figures from the world of cyber security explain how we can achieve personal cyber resilience in 2017.

Our secondary theme is transport and travel security including how British Transport Police is using Project Servator to deter, detect and disrupt crime on the rail network. We look at the issue of screening and discuss how data analysis can prevent crime on our public transport systems. And we focus on the most common threats facing business travellers and follow this up with safety advice for those travelling internationally.

016 has been another demanding year in our world as security professionals. Global acts of terrorism are regrettably a weekly event causing the tragic loss of lives, life

changing injuries and hardship caused to many. The continuing increase in cyber attacks causes harm and loss to many, whether in the private or business sectors.

I am confident our association, through its meetings, the magazine, our support for preventative initiatives and our vibrant network adds value in the prevention, deterrence and detection of those who are attempting and committing these criminal activities.

I assure you we will continue in this challenge, and to that point may I thank the City Police for their continued substantial support, our speakers, your committee, and everyone who supports the CoLCPA.

Accepting these difficult times, can I personally thank you for your continued support and wish you, your loved ones, friends and families a wonderful Christmas and a successful and safe 2017.

Don Randall, MBE, CSyP Chairman of the CoLCPA I

t was an honour and privilege to become Patron of the City of London Crime Prevention Association (CoLCPA) earlier this year after being elected as Chairman of the Police

Committee. I know my predecessor, Deputy Pollard, has been very supportive and I certainly value the CoLCPA too.

The year has seen a change in our senior team and it is very rewarding working with them and seeing their level of professionality. The Force can't do their job without the support of the public and businesses, so the involvement of CoLCPA members is paramount to helping keep the City safe. The threats to the City are real and various, but I am confident in the capability of our own Police to do the utmost to protect the workers, residents and visitors to our City.

May I wish you and your families a peaceful and happy Christmas and may you have health and prosperity in 2017.

Doug Barrow, Patron of the CoLCPA, Chairman of the Police Committee, Deputy for the Ward of Aldgate, City of London
