Spotlight on a Security Officer: Keeley Watson
ecently, there have been a number of security awards events, celebrating the commitment of those working in the security sector.
Security Institute Annual Awards Event
Andrew Nicholls, the Security Institute’s deputy chairman, was responsible for the management of their recent awards event. He explained the importance of the awards: “The Institute is a volunteer organisation which is dependent on the support of members who contribute towards its activities. We make a number of awards to individuals on an annual basis but this new event enables us to present all our awards all altogether in the presence of friends and family, making the occasion extra special for all involved.”

The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) Annual Security Personnel Awards.
These awards recognise the talent, dedication, skill and bravery exhibited by security personnel in their roles each and every day. Discussing the value of the awards, James Kelly, BSIA Chief Executive, commented: “The past year has been extremely testing for the United Kingdom, with numerous terror events shocking the nation. In times like these, it is important to recognise the true value of security personnel, who are often the first responders in times of emergency and play a vital role in keeping our country safe. This year’s winners are a perfect testament to the truly high calibre of personnel we have working within our industry.”

Graham Bassett recently met with Keeley Watson of Wilson James who works at the Sir Francis Crick Institute. He originally encountered Keeley at an event at the Crick and was impressed with her (and her colleagues’) professionalism and visitor service delivery.
Keeley discussed how Project Griffin (PG) training has benefited her. “I have always thought of myself as very alert and conscious of my surroundings, but completing Griffin training has opened my eyes to many things that I did not see before. Griffin training is invaluable to security officers and we are 100% Griffin trained here at the Francis Crick institute.
“The great thing about this course is that it is constantly moving with the times and the current threats that we face. PG is not just for people in the security industry either, we would all benefit if every business had their staff Griffin trained. If we can give everyone the tools to notice something out of the ordinary, something not quite right, then we can put a stop to these attacks before they’ve even begun.”
