elcome to our summer edition, which explores the relationship between technology and security, and asks an important question: how far should we rely on AI?


Our contributors look at the bigger picture: how technology is reshaping the security landscape, how organisations can make the most of it, and why AI is not a cure-all. Used well, it can be a powerful tool, but only when applied with care and planning.


We begin with a thought-provoking challenge from Mike Bluestone: is security at a crossroads, and is technology the answer? He explores the scale and complexity of the threats facing security professionals, and how the profession needs to evolve to respond to them.


Technology now permeates every part of our lives, creating hybrid risk across physical, personnel and cyber domains. NPSA asks security professionals to consider whether current models of responsibility still reflect the environment they are being asked to protect.


Elsewhere, we examine the growing importance of the human factor in security, the cyber resilience of surveillance in city operations, how social engineering tactics continue to evolve, and why organisations need practical frameworks to assess whether AI is truly right for them.


We also take a closer look at the uncomfortable realities of geopolitics, security technology and supply chain risk, and ask whether the benefits of innovation are always worth the exposure.

City Security Article of the Year Award


Congratulations to Joe Easterbrook from CIS Security Limited on winning the City Security Magazine Article of the Year 2025 Award for his article SWOT Analysis: Managing protest.


The award was presented at Pewterers’ Hall by Don Randall MBE at the City of London Crime Prevention Association April meeting, marking the seventh year of this fantastic annual award.


This year, more than 70 articles were published, with the 12 most viewed shortlisted after attracting over 12,000 website views. Readers then cast more than 350 votes to choose their favourite.


Congratulations to Anisoara S. who was drawn as the lucky winner from our Article of the Year voters to nominate a charity of

her choice for a donation. Anisoara chose the NSPCC (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children), and we're delighted to have made a £204 donation to this vital cause.
