There are many routes, roles and supporting organisations for those wanting to develop a career in security and we cover all three aspects: this edition opens with how the role of security consultant is being closely anticipated in light of the Protect Duty, includes an analysis of close protection – followed by an update from the SIA on recent changes - and closes with the annual security salary survey.
Personal safety for themselves and others is a priority for those working in security. The National Police Chief’s Council’s (NPCC) strategy to tackle Violence against Women and Girls, headed by Deputy Chief Constable Maggie Blyth, is referenced across this edition. This includes the new initiative Licensing SAVI, which supports these efforts in the night-time economy. We also cover how counter terror policing are protecting us, report on three new initiatives from CPNI on spotting and reporting concerns, and have the Suzy Lamplugh Trust outlining their work on stalking.
The return to normal means the return of face-to-face meetings and events, including AGMs and trade shows. These events included the City of London Crime Prevention Association (CoLCPA) AGM in May. In his Chairman’s report, Don Randall MBE pointed out that the Association will be celebrating its 20th anniversary next year. He also highlighted how the security organisations that represent and support the sector are continuing to work in harmonisation.
Keeping it green...
Don presented three key individuals to the Association with awards, including honorary membership of the CoLCPA to recently retired Commissioner of the City of London Police, Ian Dyson QPM. He also presented thank you gifts to Eugene O’Mahony for his 35 years’ service as secretary to the CoLCPA and previous associations, and Belinda Harding MBE for her long service as committee member.

Congratulations to Her Majesty the Queen on her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone in policing and security who ensured everyone took part in the Celebration Weekend safely and securely.
It was great to meet so many of you at recent security exhibitions, including at our stand at IFSEC International. We will also have a stand at the International Security Expo, 27-28 September at Olympia, London, and we hope to see you there!

hese continue to be uncertain times, with the ongoing war in Ukraine and the cost-of-living increases impacting everyone. However, the world is returning to normal routines following the pandemic and, in response, we turn our focus to supporting the individuals in security: in security career development and in keeping themselves and others safe.
