S PRING 2020 WELCOME S Why the
best security practice is
everyone’s business...
adly, 2020 has not started quietly. Across the world we have seen extreme environmental conditions, including the unprecedented forest fires in
Australia and the impact of Storms Ciara and Dennis bringing widespread flooding in UK. The COVID-19 Virus is causing concern around the world and many are holding their breath on whether it becomes a full-blown pandemic. Terrorists continue to make their mark with a worrying increase in right-wing extremism leading to further attacks. The impact of cybercrime on business and the individual continues to increase year on year. All of this at a time of ever- increasing demands on our policing.
Those responsible for security within any business, large or small, must consider all these potential threats as part of their risk assessment and security and business continuity strategy. Business management and security must take a holistic response to mitigate all threats to protect their staff, assets and reputation.
This edition brings ideas and know-how to support everyone in security with ongoing developments in risk and the response to them. We explore a wide range of issues impacting security, including the continued threat from urban explorers and the security risk that drones continue to present, and we include some myth busting facts around facial recognition technology.
Our world is constantly changing, and the world’s populations are moving to cities in ever-increasing numbers. It is imperative that these cities understand and embrace technology to provide the safest and most efficient environment they can. We explore both megacities and smart cities and their security.
In other areas, we include a hard-hitting article from Refuge on the responsibility of business to support employees dealing with domestic abuse. We also learn more about Victim Support and its role in helping those caught up in a terrorist incidents.
