Tesco Stronger Starts grants are voted for by the public via blue tokens in Tesco shops. Projects can include school breakfast clubs, healthy eating projects and food growing areas. You can be nominated, or apply online at tescostrongerstarts.org.uk/ apply-for-a-grant


The Edina Trust offers non-competitive grants to schools in selected areas of the UK for science resources and gardening equipment. Infant and junior schools can apply for £400 for up to three years, while primary and special schools can obtain £800 for up to three years. Local authority areas that are eligible are updated on the website each academic year at edinatrust.org.uk/science-grant-scheme


Apply to The Tree Council’s Orchards for Schools programme and you can receive a fruit-bearing, wildlife-enhancing, carbon- storing orchard or fruiting hedgerow. The National Breakfast Programme supports schools in England to provide children with a healthy breakfast at the start of the school day. Schools that have 40% or more children in Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index (IDACI) bands A-F can apply online to be assessed for eligibility at family-action.org.uk/ services/national-school-breakfast-programme-nsbp

The trust’s focus is to advance education, skills and understanding in subjects relating to the hospitality industry, including grants for food technology. Projects that have received funds in the past include the refurbishment of a food technology room at a secondary school, and a cooking initiative at a primary school. Food for Thought Education Fund


Up to £3,000


Annual, usually in June


Available to local authority schools in Scotland, this fund is for projects that deliver food education that can be applied in a progressive way, provide hands-on learning through farm visits, relate to the world of work or reduce food waste.
