Dione Hall NAME:

How long have you been working in the industry? I qualified some 20 years ago but only returned to the industry in 2012.

What first attracted you to the nail industry? Coming back into the industry in 2012 I enrolled onto numerous beauty refresher courses. The first course was my Nail Technicians Diploma, and I instantly fell in love with all things nails.

Which qualifications do you hold? Beauty therapy L2, Nail Technician Diploma, advanced nail qualifications. 730/6 Adult Education Qualification, DTLLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Life Long Learning Sector), D32/D33 Assessors Awards. I am also currently completing my Diploma in Beauty Therapy to allow me to teach at a higher level.

What does being an Educator involve? For me being an educator involves sharing my knowledge and skills to like- minded beauticians and nail technicians, supporting and providing help and encouragement even after the course. A lot of my students still contact me for advice and I find this really flattering.

What do you love most about your job? The variety, every day is different and I really do enjoy what I do. My clients make my job so pleasurable too.

What’s the most difficult part? It really saddens me to see all of the pictures on social media of badly damaged nails where ladies have chosen to go to non-standard salons. These salons are popping up on every high street too.

What is your day-to-day like? My days are quite hectic, juggling the school run, attending my own college course, running training sessions in various locations and appointments with my lovely ladies and gents.

Who or what inspires you? I get my inspiration from so many sources. There are so many fantastic nail technicians out there and following them on YouTube has become a past time of mine. Social media has made watching their work so much more accessible. Being a very creative person almost anything inspires me, a recent creation was based upon a pattern I had on a piece of wrapping paper. I even watch the X Factor, just to see the celebrity’s nails.

Where are you Located? Newcastle upon Tyne

Career Highlight? Teaching my first ever beauty class. I adore doing brides nails and being a part of their big day.

What is your favourite nail trend this year? So many to choose from, but I have really enjoyed trying to replicate the negative space nails. The accent nail still seems to be a firm favourite with my clients, especially a sparkly one.

What is your favourite nail brand and why? It’s got to be Artistic Colour Gloss, it just lasts so well and the colour choice is amazing. The only complaint I ever get is that I have too many colours to choose from! IBX is also a firm favourite, I have seen some amazing results from this product. Last but not least it has to be Dadi’Oil, it’s a brilliant cuticle oil and smells fantastic too.

What is your favourite nail art to create on a client? I have so many favourites I couldn’t just name one. Autumn is my favourite season and I have really enjoyed hand painting trees, leaves and flowers using all of the berry and autumn colours. The colour fades and glitter fades have to be mentioned too, every girl needs a bit of glitter.
