International employability Work placement (internship)


All our undergraduate course and many postgraduate courses include the option of undertaking a work placement. Many of these last for a full year, while others are shorter and fit in around other modules of study.


All of them, however, are designed specifically to give you the chance to put your learning into practice. In addition, the experiences you gain while on placement can shape your future learning, providing a framework to help you understand your studies even better. Employers, recruitment agencies and job hunting websites will all tell you the same thing – graduating with ‘just’ a degree is often not enough.


We have excellent industry contacts and run recruitment fairs and employer events on campus to help introduce yourself to companies. Dedicated placement officers in each Faculty as well as Careers & Employability Service are there to help our international students to find the right opportunity for work experience.

MyCareerHub is an extensive online resource open to all current students and graduates (up to three years after graduation for free).

It offers part time, vacation, placement and graduate job vacancies (including jobs outside the UK via Gradlink China, Gradlink Africa etc.)

• Book face to face, telephone or skype appointments with careers advisors


• Practice FREE Psychometric Tests


• Help with writing CVs, covering letters and application forms


• Prepare you to attend interviews and assessment centres


• Comprehensive range of employability resources to help you with the career planning and job application/hunting process


• Sector specific careers and job hunting resources


• Details of on and off campus recruitment events and employer presentations


In addition to the above, we offer a weekly group session for international students on how to write a CV from a UK perspective.
