STARTUP OF THE MONTH Payments for the social generation

Guy Talmi, CMO at PayKey, tells IBS Journal about providing the kind of social payments that Millennials crave and how teaming up with the banks is better than trying to fight them

Tell us about your company – how was it founded?

PayKey was founded in 2015 by Daniel Peled (CEO) and Offer Markovich (CTO). During participation in the Tel-Aviv Citi bank accelerator, we developed our current offering – a social payment solution being sold to banks and other financial institutions around the world. Now, with the support of strategic investors such as MasterCard, Santander Innoventures, Commerz Ventures and others, PayKey’s team grew up to 30 people and serves banks such as Westpac, Garanti, UOB, Davivienda and SParebank1.

We are also very proud to be recognised and awarded by some of the leading financial organisations. We were the winners of the Temenos Innovation Jam, winners with Bank Innovation and at Bezinga. We’re also listed as one of the top 50 European fintechs.

Recently, we participated in the Money 20/20 event in Copenhagen. We were privileged to present a case study on the first day, together with one of our customers Garanti bank from Turkey.

What is your business model?

PayKey is a white-label solution being sold to banks. Once integrated, our Social Payment Solution enables bank users to make instant and secure P2P payment within any social network and messaging application. Our typical business model is based on a software licence per user.

Millennials spend most of their time on social networks, where conversations about money take place

Guy Talmi: Implementation of PayKey, which is intuitive to use, has benefits for banks in terms of driving mobile banking services and retention of Millennials

What sets you apart from the competition?

Millennials spend most of their time on social networks. This is also where conversations about money take place. However, until now, the other P2P offering in the market required users to leave their social interaction and onboard a dedicated app in order to make the transfer. PayKey is the only agnostic solution that enables users to make the P2P transfer within any social network and messaging application.

With PayKey, everyday banking becomes simple and frictionless. Users enjoy trusted, instantaneous, and contextual money
