Who’s bought what? PATH SOLUTIONS WINS IMAL DEAL WITH FAISAL ISLAMIC BANK IN SUDAN T xxx

he Sudanese division of Egypt-based Faisal Islamic Bank has selected Path Solutions and its iMAL Islamic core- banking system. iMAL is set to replace the bank’s legacy system, Financial & Banking Systems’ Pentabank. The system will be deployed across all of FIB Sudan’s 100 branches. The bank will also deploy mobile and internet banking modules, as well as business intelligence and risk management services.

According to El Bagir Ahmed Al Noury Adlan, general manager of FIB, many other core banking system providers “failed to achieve” the bank’s “transformation objectives”.

“As we all know, core banking systems form the backbone of any financial institution, hence a replacement should be a very well-thought-out process,” he added. “This time we believe we have selected the right platform that meets the bank’s business requirements.” Both Path Solutions and ICS Financial Systems were shortlisted by FIB Sudan, and invited to a nine-day workshop.

“We are excited about this opportunity to provide Faisal Islamic Bank, one of the largest banks in Sudan, the competitive edge

Path Solutions’ core banking system will be rolled out across all 100 Faisal Islamic Bank branches after FIB said many other providers “failed to achieve” the bank’s objectives

of new-generation technology,” said Mohammed Kateeb, Path Solutions’ group chairman and CEO.

“We are confident that iMAL’s unmatched comprehensiveness, flexibility, and scalability will enable the bank to launch new and differentiated Shari’ah-based products and services with significant time-to-market advantage”.

BANK OF CYPRUS SELECTS IBM FOR DIGITAL ROLLOUT I xxx

BM has been selected as the strategic partner of Bank of Cyprus, for the implementation of the Bank’s digital transformation programme. The multi-year partnership with the bank will see the client using IBM technologies and consulting expertise with the aim to create “a more modern and efficient” IT platform supported by streamlined, automated processes. IBM iX solutions will be used to redesign its digital channels and revamp its physical branch, providing the bank’s customer with a personalised experience.

The bank will optimise existing IT infrastructure, enhance standardisation and automation, streamline its internal IT systems and service management processes and introduce big data and analytics capabilities.

As part of the digital transformation program, IBM and Bank of Cyprus will also establish a joint digital factory, that will serve as a

“vertical, agile delivery function”, hosting emerging technology skills and leveraging DevOps tools and methodologies.

Additionally, Bank of Cyprus and IBM will also establish what they call a ‘Joint Innovation Capability’ – dedicated to innovation, concept and prototype development, although they did not detail what exact form this initiative would take.
