REFLECTIONS ON THE WSCA ANNUAL CONFERENCE

at the Hilton Seattle Airport and Conference Center. With over 200 attendees event was ultimately a success, providing an entire year’s worth of CE credits to dozens of DCs, and nearly a year’s worth to the rest.
This year’s event was different than others in a number of ways. From our brand new CE-integrated tradeshow to the resounding success of our premium membership drive, we have a lot to report!
We experimented with a new feature—the CE-integrated Tradeshow.
The result was a value-added experience that helped many DCs pick up over six hours of CE in a fun, interactive manner.
First, we experimented with a new feature—the CE-integrated Tradeshow. attending tradeshows. Although mere attendance wouldn’t necessarily seem to be an educational experience, this tradeshow involved a little more and and in doing so, had to provide a qualified presenter, an approved topic, offer an unbiased educational presentation, and meet certain time requirements. Applications were scoured, revisions were requested, and in the end only 2/3 of the applicants were approved. But the result was a value-added experience up over six hours of CE in a fun, interactive manner, and one that also improved the exhibitors’ experience.
Another new feature this year
was the (near) elimination of paper. Attendees still received registration provided entirely in electronic format. Available through both the mobile app and the conference flash drives (provided courtesy of The John Alexander Law Firm), attendees saved space, environmental resources, and—most importantly—money by ditching the cumbersome paper notes we’ve printed in years past. In the end, the WSCA printed out over 30,000 fewer sheets of paper for this event than it did the previous year. That savings goes directly
