the time a part gets to the customer, we expect it to be the best part possible,” Catalano says. “And if we think there might be any question about the part when the customer receives it, we communicate with the customer before we ship.”

Keep EmployeesOn Track with Benefits, Incentives As the business grew, the Catalano’s knew that keep- ing their employees satisfied would be critical to the company’s success. The family has kept that com- mitment for 40 years, and it has repaid them many times over in employee loyalty and motivation. “Our employee turnover is low, and we believe that is because we take care of our employees,” Catalano notes. “At least 40 percent of our employees have been here 20 years or more.”

The company offers a handsome benefits package

that includes a 401(k), a company contribution to the employee health insurance plan and an end-of-year bonus linked to the company’s financial performance. Applicants aspiring to join Bionic’s salesforce must meet stringent hiring qualifications. In addition to hav- ing an outgoing personality, a talent for understand- ing customers and the motivation to provide superior customer service, Bionic Auto Parts requires that its salespeople possess a significant automotive back- ground. “We provide ongoing sales training through semi-

nars, ARA, URG and consultants like Jim Counts, Bill Stevens and Mike Kunkel, but to be successful we believe they need to have an understanding of the automotive (repair) industry,” Catalano notes. Today, Catalano’s son John Jr. and nephew Anthony are working in the business, continuing the family tra- dition of excellence in recycled parts that started more than 40 years ago. Like the blues and deep dish pizza, Bionic Auto Parts plans to just keep getting better. 
