In other words, our associations can do more than just enforce their rules and regulations--In fact, they can also party.


We know that parties can come at a cost and that may include potential liability if you don’t plan properly, but you don’t have to break the budget or startle your association’s attorney or insurance carrier to have fun.

Most associations do not have much of an events bud- get if any, so here are a few ideas for you to start plan- ning community gatherings on a dime (we’ll discuss liability later):


National Night Out: August 6th 2019 marks the 37th

e get asked all the time, what makes a per- fect community association? We think we can all agree that having neighbors you


and free gathering of your neighbors and local first responder’s. According to the National Night Out website, National Night Out is an annual community- building campaign that promotes strong police-com- munity partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work. Just register on the National Night Out website, identify a location (or locations) in the community for neighbors to gather (I’ve seen this done on driveways), and have everyone bring a snack and/or a drink to share.


Movie Night: Pull up the lounge chairs and find a spot on the common area lawn. Tis easy to plan event is a great way to gather neighbors of all ages for a fun, relaxing night. We’ve seen communities pull off the most amazing movie nights with popcorn machines, food trucks, drink carts, and a great family friendly movie. Some communities even hire actors to dress in a movie character much to the delight of those in attendance. Don’t forget to check out the copyright laws (you’ll have to pay a fee to “rent/play” the movie), and plan on charging a small entrance fee to cover the costs.
