WHO releases ICD-11

The World Health Organization (WHO) released a version of ICD-11 on June 18 to allow member states time to review and plan implementation. WHO intends to present ICD-11 for adoption at the World Health Assembly in 2019. If adopted, it will go into effect Jan. 1, 2022.

The new iteration of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD) is fully electronic, which the WHO says will make it easier to use and implement than ICD-10, which was introduced in 1990 but only adopted in the United States in 2015.

bit.ly/2lHtF2b Update your

demographic information The success of interventional radiology draws strength not just from the clinical expertise of physicians but from the diversity of their backgrounds and experiences as human beings in the world. As a specialized group of medical practitioners, SIR recognizes a need to increase the diversity of interventional radiologists to better represent the patient population they serve. Please help SIR build a culture of inclusion by updating your profile to add your demographic information and practice type by logging in at sirweb.org.

Reimbursement woes?

SIR has you covered. SIR has developed several examples of common coverage request letters that include data and supporting evidence for patient need and can save you considerable work. Coverage templates include treatments for radiofrequency ablation of pulmonary tumors, ovarian vein embolization for pelvic congestion syndrome and MRI imaging of the uterus prior to uterine fibroid embolization. Learn more and download templates at bit.ly/2IE9yLs.

Interested in starting a clinical research trial or

clinical registry? The SIR Foundation Clinical Research and Registries Division is encouraging physicians to submit their ideas about starting a registry or a research trial. A letter of interest (LOI) is required to briefly describe the project significance, proposed data outcomes and SIR Foundation’s role in assisting the process. The link to complete the LOI can be found on the Clinical Research and Registries page. After the LOI is reviewed, the review committee will contact the physician for additional instructions. If you have any questions, please contact Eleanore Moye, director of research and grants, at emoye@sirweb.org.
