The breadth of the Caribbean, its warm waters and varying biodiversity offer a variety of different types of diving, with shore, boat, wreck, cave and night diving all possible. Each island has its own exciting features to offer, for everyone from beginners to advanced divers. By Karen Worrall
ST CROIX, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS St Croix is one of the few islands where it’s possible to dive in reefs, wrecks and at the sea wall, all in one day. For reef diving, the shallow waters of the Aquarium offer views of reef fi sh, lobsters, eels and seahorses. There are three shipwrecks off the coast of Butler Bay, just outside Frederiksted town, on the west coast. The most shallow wreck is the safest to explore and is accessible from shore for robust divers, or reachable by boat. The north shore is the place to go for deep dives along the sea wall, with 100ft-plus visibility, where squid shoals and hawksbill sea turtles roam.
