Andermatt, so near and yet so far D
The ideal balance between movement and relaxation
iscover the breathtaking Swiss mountain landscape in all its glory. Whether in summer
or winter, staying at the Radisson Blu Hotel Reussen, Andermatt offers access to unique outdoor moments. Waking up to a view of
snow-
capped mountain peaks with a freshly brewed coffee in hand, before slipping on your hiking boots and heading off on a hike in nature — this is what a summer morning could look like for a guest at the hotel.
Where chalet chic and Nordic design collide Te Radisson Blu Hotel Reussen, Andermatt was built in the style of a Swiss chalet. Concept architects from Burkhalter Sumi Architekten and project architects from Germann
Achermann AG deliberately chose wood as the main material. As a result, the hotel facade ‘lives’ in the rough mountain weather. Te motifs typical of chalets extend into the interior of the hotel building, where they merge with Scandinavian elements. Tis creates an open and bright design. At the same time, natural materials such as wood and stone, as well as special features such as a fireplace situated in the middle of the lobby, ensure addi- tional warmth and cosiness.
For special moments Te Spun restaurant impresses with modern Alpine cuisine, using prod- ucts almost entirely sourced from the surrounding cantons of Uri, Graubünden, Ticino and Valais, while Te Bärbar is a lounge and bar is where
guests can order local beer and cock- tails inspired by the Alpine world. For further relaxation, head to the
Uela Spa and Pool. With a 25-metre pool offering a breathtaking view of the mountain landscape, two saunas and a steam bath, it’s the ideal place to end a day in the mountains.
Base camp to nature Tanks to its special location, this four-star superior hotel is ideal as a base camp for nature. Here, you’re in a rough mountain world, far away from the beaten track. Popular sights such as the famous Devil’s Bridge, the Ursern Valley Museum — which shows life in the Ursern Valley in earlier times — and the Sasso San Gottardo, located in the former Gotthard fortress, are also in the immediate vicinity. At the same time, you’re only 45
minutes from Lucerne, 90 minutes from Zurich and two hours from Milan. Göschenen can be reached directly from Basel or Zurich by train without having to change.
Winter sports, hurray! Not only does the mountain world around Andermatt impress with its diversity, but the region is also one of the most snow-sure areas in the Alps. While real slopes are avail- able
off-piste skiing offers feelings of freedom and a natural experience for winter sports experts. With 110 miles of slopes, the
Andermatt+Sedrun+Disentis ski area is the largest in Central Switzerland. Here, all skiers and snowboarders are likely to find the right terrain for their preferences and abilities.
Recently, the region has received
a significant growth boost following Vail Resorts acquiring a 55% stake in Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG. Based in the US state of Colorado, Vail Resorts is investing a sum of approximately 149m CHF. Te aim is to improve the guest experience on the mountain and expand and further modernise the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun. But that’s not all: numerous cross-
country ski runs, toboggan runs and winter hiking trails are available to guests here. A wide variety of winter sports activities such as kite boarding or snowshoe tours are also on offer.
Summer, sun, sport and fun Summer sports aren’t neglected in the mountain world, either. Whether hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, bouldering, climbing, trek- king or golfing, the possibilities at the Radisson Blu Hotel Reussen can seem endless. Cyclists are well situated at the hotel as there are many Alpine passes close by. Oberalp, Gotthard, Furka and Susten. Grimsel, Lukmanier and Nufenen can all be reached from the hotel. It’s therefore unsurprising that the region is already widely known as part of the Tour de Suisse and the Alpenbrevet.
for families, the possibility of
A hiking experience In summer, the canton of Uri is a real hiker’s paradise: from easy hikes in the valley to high alpine tours. Te Four Sources Trail, which leads to the four major sources of the Rhine, Reuss, Ticino and Rhone, is ideal for a day trip. Te Furka region fascinates with its rugged rocky landscapes, while a little further down, in the direction of
Lake Lucerne, you’ll find the Arnisee or the Maderanertal with the magnif- icent Golzernsee. From Altdorf there are hikes around Lake Lucerne, where there are also some bathing opportuni- ties. Finally, the Brunnital is an equally great hiking option.
