Capturing the magic of the mountains A

lice Luetchford is a mountain- obsessed fine artist who is on a mission to share the beauty

of the summits. “Mountains are an incredibly special place for me,” she says. “When in the Alps in particular, I feel a sense of peace that I rarely find elsewhere. Te mountains are a reas- suring presence and give me a feeling of perspective

that I carry

through into my daily life. And that’s why I paint: to try and capture those emotions in paint on canvas so that others

can also experience those soothing feelings

wherever they are.” Not only does Alice paint

mountains, she also ski trains

and races in them. Alice ski guides her severely sight-impaired husband James down slalom and giant slalom race courses while competing for Great Britain on the Para Alpine race circuit. Ranked number 14th in the world, they are working towards the 2026 Winter Paralympics. “Its’s incredibly hard as we are completely unfunded and ski racing is incredibly expensive. But we’ve fallen in love with the sport and love showing what disabled people can do — it’s a more extreme version of regular ski racing and so much fun to do together.” Alice uses her time in the moun-

tains to take numerous reference photographs for her oil paintings.

Inspired by the locations they visit, Alice often sketches on location and then returns to paint at home. “We have a converted campervan we travel around in with our two cats, so painting in oils isn’t very easy while we’re on the move. But I take as many photos as possible to work from when we are at home back in London.” All proceeds from Alice’s art go

towards funding her disabled ski racing career with her husband. She has original oil paintings and limited- edition fine art prints available. Alice is also open to commissions.

For artist and skier Alice Luetchford, seeing the true beauty of the mountains means not just being able to bring them alive on canvas, but being part of a husband-and-wife team working towards the Winter Paralympics
