Monetise your lived experience F

Every year, almost half of UK adults struggle with loneliness1

or many, when life becomes challenging,

it’s easy to feel isolated and alone. Whether

you’ve just received a cancer diagnosis and are struggling to tell your chil- dren or are battling with your mental health, modern society can feel lone- lier than ever.

Just having someone

who understands what you’re going through — someone you can ask, “Do you feel this too, or is this just me?” — can be life-changing. In 2023, Karen Harris StoriBoard: a peer-to-peer

launched support

app that connects people going through similar life experiences. Now, in response to the growing need for mental and physical health support, StoriBoard has developed the world’s

leading Expert by Experience Course. T rough this course, learners

develop the knowledge and practical skills to deliver lived experience peer support to others going through the same. Alongside extensive training in safeguarding, suicide-prevention, inclusivity

and diversity, course-

takers learn to utilise their own lived experiences to deliver emotional recovery programmes, empowering others to lead more meaningful and fulfi lling lives.

By leading tailored one-to-one peer support sessions via the StoriBoard app, qualifi ed Experts by Experience (EbEs) can connect on an empathetic level with those seeking guidance. Michelle Leigh, an EbE who lost her 16-year-old son Oli to suicide, acts as a role-model and inspiration for other parents in similar circumstances. She understands what bereaved parents are experiencing in a way that few can, using her own journey to provide hope to others in her situation. Delivering peer support is also

highly rewarding for EbEs themselves. T ose who have overcome challenges, from addiction to navigating life with anxiety, can fi nd sustained healing precisely by helping others. And while helping to transform lives for the better is, in itself, a powerful psycho- logical boost, qualifi ed EbEs stand to earn up to £40 for each hour of one-to-one sessions delivered through the StoriBoard app. Becoming an Expert by Experience is a one-of-a- kind opportunity that does good and feels good.
