British property sells fastest in Northamptonshire

A new generation of buyers is enjoying the delights of Northamptionshire’s beautiful countryside and superb amenities, as ‘The Rose of The Shires’ offers a booming market. Words: Grahame Anderson

WINCHESTER GATE, MULBERRY HOMES

This is where you’ll find the fastest-moving property market in Britain, with homes here taking an average of just 27 days to go under offer, according to Zoopla. It’s the same picture right across the East Midlands. Credit agency Experian has revealed through research, the county is one of the best places in the UK to start and run a business. In terms of the county town, there’s a long list of exciting reasons why property investors should call Northampton home. Hundreds of new commercial and office spaces have been created within The Waterside Enterprise Zone, from Sixfields to the centre of town. What’s more, Northampton train station has been given a multimillion-pound facelift, there’s a state-of-the-art bus terminal, brand-new council offices and a superb hotel. It’s possible to secure a detached home

with four bedrooms overlooking the canal in a highly desirable spot for around £500k. A bargain detached bungalow with three bedrooms can be purchased for less than £350k, with a one-bedroomed flat in popular Stourbridge available for just £145k. Or you may prefer a three-bedroomed detached family home in gorgeous Earls Barton for around £300k. Some 16 miles away in Kettering, property

prices have increased by 20% across the past three years, largely due to its excellent location between London and Birmingham, with improvements to the Victorian town centre matching increasing demand. Jonathan Harington, director of

Northamptonshire’s oldest buying agency Haringtons, says: “There are some impressive new residential developments planned both

in Kettering itself, and nearby Desborough, opening up further opportunities for first- time buyers, second steppers and downsizers alike. Kettering also benefits from fantastic access to the M1, A1 and A14 and is perfectly placed in the middle of the country.” Rob Tilley, director of Hunters Kettering,

adds: “Proximity to Birmingham and sub-hour train journeys to London, have allowed the area to become a commuter hotspot for those travelling north or south. Improvements to the town centre have also followed suit with the new ‘Cultural Quarter’, featuring a variety of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes as well as a museum, art gallery and The Yards, a quirky shopping area.”

BELLWAY’S NENE TOWNHOUSE

SUBERB HOMES The ancient market town of Wellingborough on the north side of the River Nene, has seen property prices rise by 6.6% in the past 14 months. Compared with London, bricks and mortar here offer much better value. There’s the added attraction of both Irchester and Sywell country parks, offering 200 acres of heaven. It’s possible to secure a quality three-storey, five-bedroom terrace for less than £250k. In fact, buyers can pick up a handsome five-bedroom Victorian villa, for the price of an uninspiring two-bedroom flat in the capital Mulberry Homes, one of the region’s

leading independent housebuilders, has created a range of superb three- and four- bedroom homes in the charming village of Weldon. Winchelsea Gate is a collection of 27 properties constructed of stone and brick, sympathetically designed to

complement this gloriously picturesque place. A three-bedroom dwelling can be secured for just £259,950, with four- bedroom homes starting at just £324,950. Help to Buy is also available in this highly desirable Northamptonshire haven. And to complement everything, the new Corby train station is three miles away, with fast links to London King’s Cross every hour. At Brackley, the red-hot one- to five-

bedroom homes being built at Bellway’s Foxhill development off Northampton Road, are being snapped up by buyers. The development’s location and rural surroundings are behind many people’s decision to move to the area. What’s more, the government-backed Help to Buy scheme is available to use at the development, allowing buyers to purchase a new home with just a 5% deposit and a 75% mortgage. The remaining 20% is provided in the form of an equity loan, interest-free for the first five years of home ownership. Both apartments and houses are

available to buy at Foxhill, with one- bedroom apartments currently starting at £179,995. Sales and marketing director for Bellway’s northern home counties division, Chris Edginton, says: “Brackley is a wonderful market town with real charm and character, and the location of this development is a huge plus point for people looking to move here. While the town is full of all the amenities you could need, it’s also surrounded by the rolling countryside synonymous with South Northamptonshire. It really does offer residents the best of both worlds.”
