30 Days Wild

Were you inspired by Rosa’s wild swimming in the last issue? Not everyone fancies dipping their toes in Windermere in winter, but the good news is that absolutely everyone can take part in our nature challenge this June.

30 Days Wild is for everyone: tell your friends, family and your neighbours – and get involved!

This fantastic event, co-ordinated nationally by The Wildlife Trusts, is part of our campaign to inspire everyone to dedicate time to nature each day throughout the month of June, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

With our lives geting ever busier, it can be difficult to spend time enjoying the wildlife around us, yet thousands of people have carried out Random Acts of Wildness: litle daily actions to help you connect with, or help, nature by taking part in the campaign over the last four years.

If you’d like to take part this year, sign up at www.wildlifetrusts.org/30DaysWild where you’ll receive a free downloadable pack and emails with events, inspiration and updates.

Partnership blooms in the Westmorland Dales

Come along to one of our keeping in touch walks this summer. As members, you are invited to join staff for a guided walk at three different locations:

 4 June at Laterbarrow  13 June at Drumburgh Moss  25 June at Doddthwaite Meadow

All events are free and refreshments will be provided.

Booking required – see the What’s On guide for more details.

Protecting Wildlife for the Future

The Trust is looking to recruit two new trustees

The Board needs a mix of skills to cover all aspects of the Trust’s work. Maintaining a gender balance is also important so applications from females would be particularly welcome.

If you’re interested or would like further information, contact our Chief Executive via the Trust’s office at Plumgarths, or by email to: mail@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk

 Flower-rich grasslands will be conserved and celebrated in the Westmorland Dales

The Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership scheme has been awarded a National Lotery Heritage Fund grant of £2.27 million, made possible by National Lotery players. Led by Friends of the Lake District, a partnership of organisations will deliver 21 projects over four years, with Cumbria Wildlife Trust leading on a grasslands project to conserve species-rich grassland in the Westmorland Dales area of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The other projects

will focus on various conservation, geology, farming, archaeology and community engagement areas of work, which collectively aim to ’reveal and protect the hidden heritage of the Westmorland Dales, enabling more people to connect with, enjoy and benefit from this inspirational landscape.’
