Kurt Benn
Kurt is Head of Balanced Franchise at Absa Asset Management. He holds a BBSc (finance and economics) and a BEcon (Hons) in investment management and advanced finance. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter-holder.
Chris Gibbons
Chris is one of South Africa’s most respected journalists, as well as a highly sought-after keynote speaker and conference facilitator. He is the Editor of Acumen, the quarterly magazine of the Gordon Institute of Business Science at the University of Pretoria. With an interest in radio that goes back more than 40 years, Chris maintains an on-air presence via the Morning Market Report on AlgoaFM (weekdays, 07.15). He’s also worked for the BBC, ABC, NBC and Australia’s Maquarie Network.
Gaye Crossley
A writer, entrepreneur and sustainability enthusiast, Gaye has lived and worked in a number of countries around the world, including Bahrain, Australia, England, Ireland and New Zealand. She writes for a number of mainstream publications and business journals. She also works for a number of corporate clients. Gaye holds a BCom from the University of the Witwatersrand and is a graduate of the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa Financial Journalism Training Programme.
Veronica Strachan
Head of Investment Communication for the Investment cluster at Absa, Veronica has in excess of 20 years’ experience in marketing and communication within the investment industry. Prior to joining Absa in 2016, her career included senior roles within the asset management and stockbroking industries, where she has always had a passion for making investment concepts and commentary simpler to read and understand. Veronica is a marketing graduate and is currently completing her post-graduate qualification in brand contact management at Vega School.
Mpho Majoro
Johannesburg-based Mpho is a writer, editor and proofreader who has a profound love of English. Armed with a BA Hons in journalism and media studies, she has worked in the media industry since 2001, gaining experience in the online media space, print, radio and TV. Her specialities include financial journalism, politics, general news, travel writing and sports, and she’s passionate about telling African stories. Mpho is a graduate of the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa Financial Journalism Training Programme.
Godfrey Mwanza
Godfrey has a number of years’ experience working in African capital markets. He began his career in corporate finance in Zambia, where he played a key role in pioneering corporate transactions. Thereafter he helped start Enko Capital, a multi-strategy, Africa-focused hedge fund based in Johannesburg. Godfrey joined Absa Asset Management in 2014 from African Alliance, where he was a Portfolio Manager on the Africa (ex-SA) equities fund. He holds a BSc in economics from the London School of Economics & Political Science and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Wendy du Plessis
Wendy is a freelance business writer. She began her career as a companies reporter for Business Day and has worked in corporate communications in both London and South Africa for multi-nationals. She is a graduate of the University of Stellenbosch and of the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa Financial Journalism Training Programme. Wendy writes for a number of publications and several corporate clients.
Azad Zangana
London-based Azad is Senior European Economist and Strategist at Schroders. He joined Schroders in 2009 and is responsible for formulating the asset management firm’s house view on the UK and Eurozone economies. His investment career commenced when he joined that organisation. He was previously an Economist at HM Treasury working on UK macro-economic analysis and Eastern Europe
