to compete against both other schools and people in the field,” he said. “I’m excited to see the technologies that are out there in the industry; find what applications are used in the field and get away from the usual, traditional methods to identify viable opportunities in manufacturing or repair.” Narez is part of Snap-on’s Student Excellence

Program, which allows qualified students to purchase Snap-on tools at special student pricing. In the past year he’s purchased tools and a toolbox, which will help prepare him for a career in aviation maintenance following graduation in May. “It’s great Snap-on came to our school and offered that opportunity to us,” he said.

Newark. Being an alternate on last year’s team gave Lauterborn great preparation and insight on what to expect when he grabs the Snap-on tools in Dallas. “We’re going to put everything we can into it,” he

said. “Most of the guys have been on past JetBlue AMC teams, so we’re just going to give it our all and really go for it this year.”

GUSTAVO NAREZ – WSU TECH Gustavo Narez is no stranger to aviation…or the classroom. After earning his degree in

aerospace engineering in 2013 from the University of Texas- Arlington, he found his way back to school, enrolling in the aviation maintenance program at WSU Tech in Wichita, Kansas.

“What I’m doing with

the program is finding more practical approaches to aviation maintenance,” Narez said. “I love planes, and that’s what got me into engineering. But quite honestly, I felt what was lacking from an engineering point of view was the hands-on understanding. I’ve really love going through the A&P process and just understanding from a practical point of view the functions of an aircraft.” As he heads to Dallas, Narez

says he’s most looking forward to applying his new-found skills in a competition setting. “The AMC is a hands-on competition, and I’m excited
