One example of the how this is being utilized is from
Aviatar.com, which is an online portal from Lufthansa Technik launched in 2017, which provides customer airlines with a singular mechanism with a snapshot of the operating status of their aircraft fleets, ability to plan maintenance schedules, schedule and monitor component upgrades, and receive automated alerts on maintenance needs to according to the company. Aviatar also provides the capability for airlines to procure
aircraft parts online and integrates with various aviation maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) management software applications as AMOS and Trax. Lufthansa Technik was able to craft together this solution to bring together disparate solutions and allow customers to use the software they are already using in some cases, as well as the flexibility to choose which MRO provider to work with. Their aim is to provide cloud-based solutions for the entire value chain, “from predictive maintenance to automated fulfillment.” According to its website, “AVIATAR’s predictive analytics streamline operations with two key shifts. First, it unites data from multiple departments (such as fleet management, condition monitoring and reliability management) into a centralized hub. Second, it allows airlines to take preemptive action by turning unscheduled events into scheduled events.” Another example is CloudVisit’s Aviation Maintenance
Software, which is used to ensure the airworthiness of aircraft. Using their solution, inspectors generate an aircraft inspection checklist to prioritize aircraft maintenance and repair tasks and help with organizing data to ensure aviation safety inspections meet FAA and industry standards. Their solution claims to improve upon aircraft maintenance, by monitoring and reporting any needed repairs which an aircraft is in mid-flight before it reaches its destination and identifying necessary parts or services to get the aircraft back in service quicker. This also links in procurement needs by handling automated ordering of spare parts, removing the human element in this process to some degree. Their solution supports aircraft line maintenance and heavy maintenance needs. All maintenance records are paperless, and archived in the cloud infrastructure, reducing the need to have much of any paperwork or other media on hand. All of this is being done to work proactively towards the upcoming guidelines from the FAA (which were supposed to be released in late 2019) regarding remote connectivity in aircraft safety inspections. The CloudVisit software will support the perceived guidelines (at the time of the writing of this article the publication of guidelines has not been released yet), and allow such functions as having inspectors communicate with on-site technicians via conferencing,
