Eco-Adventure & Nature A natural adventure

Beaches may be one of the first things that comes to mind when you think of Tobago – and clients will certainly find there’s no shortage of secluded bays, powder-soft sand and shimmering shores. But this island, located in the southeastern Caribbean, is also a nature lover’s paradise, teeming with beautiful birds and full of opportunities for magical wildlife experiences. At Shurland’s Nature Park on the

edge of Tobago’s Main Ridge Forest Reserve, you can spend time up close with some of the island’s most impressive creatures: hummingbirds. With your hand outstretched holding a pot of sugar syrup, it doesn’t take long for one of the dozens of birds

to arrive for a sip. The tiny, delicate creature hovers to take a drink, wings buzzing and glistening in the sunlight. While Tobago is home to six

species of hummingbird – each uniquely beautiful, their colours ranging from emerald greens and petrol blues to deep copper, with white tails and shocks of orange – a bounty of more than 260 bird species awaits across the island. Adventure Farm and Nature

Reserve is Tobago’s biggest conservation effort, winning awards for its commitment to protecting the serene, natural habitat. Visitors to this lush, leafy oasis can hear

singing motmots, chivi vireo, white- tipped doves and the many more bird species that also reside in this eco-reserve – as well as the buzz of hummingbird wings whipping past.

INTO THE WILD Those who venture into the Main Ridge Forest Reserve – part of a Unesco-listed biosphere reserve covering northeast Tobago – will also be richly rewarded. With Zee Birding Tours, clients can explore the forest, thick with UK houseplant favourites growing in their natural habitat (think ferns and cheese plants). Several bird species can be found here, including rufous-tailed jacamar that rest in the branches, male and female woodpeckers calling out to each other through the leaves,

Bird spotters can look out for more than 260 bird species in Tobago,

including the white-tailed hummingbird
