The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Abta: Association ‘feels immune’
Story: Abta chief defends hike in members’ subscriptions This statement, “We base our calculations on members’ last financial statements”, is quite simply not true. If it were, current subscriptions would not be being based off 2019 revenue numbers. There are lots of ways that Abta could cut costs. It would be difficult and uncomfortable but cost-cutting always is. There is not a single travel company which has not had to go through the pain of cutting costs, yet the industry’s main regulator feels as if it is immune. Abta is not representative of the industry it claims to represent. When it is ‘representing’ us speaking to government, where is the outrage? Where is the pain? It doesn’t exist because it hasn’t felt it. Olly Brendon, founder and chief executive,
Attraction Tickets Q Travel Weekly would welcome a response from Abta
Emma Savage @TCEmmaSavage Travel Counsellors Travel is just getting back on its feet and BA crew threaten to strike. I struggle to sympathise with them because their actions ripple across the industry as well as customers.
Disruption: Is poor management to blame?
Story: Travel ‘unfairly stigmatised’ for disruption, says Abta chief How are some airlines such as
Jet2.com and Ryanair able to run programmes with minimal cancellations while others like easyJet and BA are causing massive disruption? The same with airports – some are working fairly disruption-free while others are in chaos. One is left to assume it is down to one thing: poor management. This must be called out and rectified if we are to regain travellers’ confidence. FreeLatifa
Danny Waine @DNY_W Abta Collaboration is key. It was great meeting colleagues from the Irish Travel Agents Association in Belfast for the annual Abta-ITAA Summit to discuss challenges and identify opportunities, to best support our mutual members in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Joussen: He’s been brilliant Story: Tui boss Fritz Joussen resigns Claire-Louise Doherty: I am so sad about this. He has been brilliant! During the pandemic he was so supportive, considerate and caring to everyone in Tui. I wish him all the best. Ann Unwin: I can’t imagine the stress he’s been under for the last couple of years. He’s been a great leader – passionate about saving the company and jobs. Wishing him all the best.
