Sandals reveals trio of Jamaica hotels and Bahamas revamp
Juliet Dennis
Sandals Resorts International has revealed plans for three new hotels in Jamaica and a multimillion-dollar refurbishment of its Bahamas site. The all-inclusive specialist is to
transform two properties acquired in Jamaica last year, and a hotel on a part of beachfront land, into a trio of “new experiences” under the Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts brands.
The development involves the
former Jewel Dunn’s River Beach Resort & Spa in Ocho Rios and Jewel Runaway Bay Beach Resort & Waterpark. The plans will return the
Dunn’s River property back to the Sandals family as Sandals Dunn’s River, the same name as when it was originally added to the portfolio in 1990. It will receive a top-to-bottom renovation with the adjacent ocean-front land turned into a new resort – the 250-room
Sandals Balmoral Beach, Bahamas
Sandals Royal Dunn’s River. The sister hotels will operate
similarly to Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados. Runaway Bay resort, located
between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, will become Beaches Runaway Bay Resort, the third Beaches property in Jamaica. It will feature 400 one, two, three and four- bedroom suites and access to the Runaway Bay Golf Club. In the Bahamas, Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore
Island will undergo a multimillion- dollar renovation with an overhaul of more than 200 existing rooms and suites, and new river suites. The hotel, spa and private island in Nassau will close for the revamp and reopen ahead of the winter season on November 4, 2021. Agents who have clients with
bookings at the resort during the closure will be offered alternative accommodation options by Sandals or to postpone their stay.
