TRAINING

Visit Malta updates training content and adds certification

Visit Malta has revamped its agent training programme with refreshed content and a certification scheme. The tourism board has added

four courses, with a view to adding three more by the end of the year, plus a webinar series for 2024. UK and Ireland trade trainer

Peter Green encouraged agents to sign up and complete the courses if they would like to earn a place on a fam trip. The platform’s new badge

system identifies key agents undertaking training and delivering on bookings, with the aim of offering them a place on future Malta Academy fam trips. malta-training.com

Not in the Guidebooks targets growth on back of investment

Samantha Mayling

Experiences specialist Not in the Guidebooks is aiming to double its sales in 2024 following a second round of investment. The company raised £502,000 earlier this year, with

about 50 agents among those investing amounts ranging from £10 to £25,000. Company founder and chief executive Carol Savage

said bookings for 2023 were 14% up on last year. She added that the cash injection could fuel a 100% rise in sales in 2024. The investment has enabled more staff to be recruited,

including business development manager Michelle Thake, who supports agents with training and materials. Not in the Guidebooks works with about 8,000

independent agents and about 80%-85% of its experiences are sold via agencies.

My Booking Rewards and Online Travel Training offer single interface

Online Travel Training (OTT) has partnered with My Booking Rewards (MBR) to allow agents to streamline e-learning and rewards via a single interface. OTT managing director Julia Feuell said: “The shared interface means agents no longer have to double up on platform access. They can log into OTT to complete training, then switch to MBR to log bookings and claim rewards.” onlinetraveltraining.com mybookingrewards.com

travelweekly.co.uk A new dashboard enables agents to personalise

itineraries with their contact details and seasonal content to help them tailor itineraries. “Agents are key to our success, as we try to make

tourism a force for good,” said Savage. “There is a huge opportunity for tourism to be sustainable.” She is also considering fam trips and training

opportunities to showcase the company’s products and share tips about sustainability. Not in the Guidebooks recently held a lunch in

London for about a dozen partner agents, and more such events are planned. The company’s 15-day Costa Rica East to West

itinerary costs from £2,767, while a 15-day Ultimate Sri Lanka Off the Beaten Track tour starts at £3,555. A three-night family adventure in Apukka, in Finnish

Lapland, costs £2,965 for two adults and two children. notintheguidebooks.com

Tourism New Zealand to operate three itineraries on spring fam trip

Tourism New Zealand is to run three different itineraries on a 100% Pure New Zealand fam trip for agents in spring 2024. Each tour will be linked to motivators to travel and market trends.
